Gouache Painting: Color Blocking & the Figure: Inspired by Matisse and Rothko
June 5 @ 9:30am - 12:30pm
In this gouache class, we explore the figure through bold shape and color. Drawing inspiration from Matisse’s expressive forms and Rothko’s layered fields, you’ll learn how to break the body down into blocks of tone and movement rather than focusing on detail.
We’ll work through guided exercises that shift how you see the figure. Thinking in shapes, negative space, and color relationships instead of lines and precision.
This class is approachable for all levels. Whether you’re new to figure work or looking to loosen up your style, it’s a refreshing way to step outside of control and into something more intuitive.
All materials are provided. Just come ready to experiment and trust your eye.
