4.26.26 Shibori: Stitch-Resist Dyeing Workshop 10am-1pm
Shibori: Stitch-Resist Dyeing Workshop
April 26 @ 10-1pm
Class ticket is $75. Included is Stripe processing fee of 3.5%.
Discover the art of Shibori, a traditional Japanese dyeing technique that transforms cloth through folding, binding, and resist. In this workshop, we’ll focus on one of the most intricate and meditative methods — stitch-resist Shibori.
Using simple hand-stitching techniques, you’ll sew patterns directly into fabric. When the threads are drawn tight, they act as a resist, preventing dye from penetrating certain areas. The result is a beautifully organic design — patterned by your own hand and revealed only after the final stitches are removed.
In this class, you’ll learn:
• The foundations and history of Shibori
• How to mark and stitch fabric for resist patterns
• Techniques for gathering and securing your stitches
• Indigo (or natural dye) immersion and proper finishing
This process is slow, rhythmic, and deeply satisfying. It invites patience and presence — each stitch contributing to a design that won’t fully reveal itself until the very end.
No prior sewing or dye experience is necessary. All materials are provided.
Come spend time with needle, thread, and dye — creating a one-of-a-kind textile shaped by tradition, intention, and your own hand.
